Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I began creating art before I was old enough for school, guided by my mother who was self-taught. From crayons and coloring books I moved onto sketching, pen and ink and various paint mediums. My painting style has been referred to as expressive figurative.
Recently I began to explore bead mosaic and am enchanted by the reflective quality of this medium. I am drawn to the meditative rhythm of working with beads and the way these small elements can build into something cohesive and expressive. I love humor and whimsy and frequently find a way to include this in my art. The world is a serious place and sometimes we need a reason to smile.
My composition and sense of color are strongly governed by my years as a Graphic Designer. I studied communication design/graphic design in the Master Degree program at Pratt Institute in New York. I have participated in painting workshops with Theresa Ferrier in New York, Jessel Miller in Napa, and Theo Becker in St. Helena.
